I’m a fan of the film, and they’ve managed to capture lots of fun details here. The price is a bit steep…I may have to wait for a sale, but this set is definitely going on my wanted list.The only thing missing that would make this a perfect 10/10 is a Billy Butcherson minifig. We also build a section off the side of the house that originally looks like a shed at first glance. Good for fans, this might pass as a Medieval House. Pretty much a perfect set for the film, just missing Billy. Looks plausible for Castle fans, but I'd really like to know whether it's proper minifg scale, or whether it's way too large like the Blacksmith's. Truly the set ever, based on one of the IPs of all time. The six minifigures are one of the highlights from this set.

I’m assuming we will attach a second room on this side. Many fans have been wondering about the roof, which is mostly grey. The design team have done a wonderful job bringing the Sanderson Cottage to life, and fans of the show will be happy that it’s in this scale. The price is a little high, but you’re getting a complete cottage, with all 4 walls and is satisfyingly sizable making it a great display model too. Maybe maybe not but since it was made it could have been marketed better. I am sure this will do very well in North America where this movie has become some sort of Halloween staple for many people.
We also add a small section of gable over the left side of the house, along with some ground and décor outside the front door. The right and left sides are built separately, and connect to the rest of the houseusing two Technic pins each. While both halves of the roof technically move, the left side is restricted by the placement of the chimney, so effectively you can only open the right side. The mechanism for opening the right side is smooth, but fragile, and does not hold up to play well. The roof sections themselves are beautifully decorated. Bag 1 offers a gentle (re)introduction to LEGO building by building a simple wall and gate.
I kinda wish that the first floor was detachable like a modular building which would’ve made access much easier. To allow you to interact with the detailed interiors, the back walls open outwards, and the roof also lifts up to get you access to the attic. Just to illustrate how large the cottage is, here’s a side by side comparison with the A-Frame Cabin. The end result is really quite nice, and it has plenty of personality and charm, especially if you grew up with Hocus Pocus and are intimately familiar with the house.
It is absolutely packed with details that fans will appreciate. Unfortunately, many of these details are hard to see and recognize once the set is complete due to design choices. I actually found more joy in building the Easter eggs included in the set than the final version because they are so hard to see. Bag 1 builds the gate and part of a crumbling wall, which sits in front of the main house. This section is completely detached from the main house. There are creepy vines and trees which decorate the crumbling gate and wall.

I've never seen the movie because I really can't stand one of the stars. But that being said this is an awesome looking set on it's own without figuring in those three characters. When I saw this up on Ideas I don't remember if I actually supported it but when it made it through review I knew it was a set I'll probably be getting because it is so interesting to me.

Even though the first floor isn’t complete yet, we start building the second story in Bag 6. The floor is installed in the back half of the house only, which allows for more viewing and access to the lower area. The walls are then assembled for three of the four sides. There is still no support or attachment to the small wall segment in the bottom left corner, so it keeps falling off, which is quite annoying. These upper walls are the most challenging part of the build so far. The brick choices are intentionally random looking to give the house the aged appearance, but it can make assembly tricky and the builder really needs to pay attention to the instructions here.

The interiors are teeming with references and Easter Eggs from the movie, and Hocus Pocus fans will appreciate the lengths that the design team have gone to replicate as many details as possible from the gift shop/witch museum. Here’s a look at the sticker sheet, which has plenty of fun little details and references. For licensed sets like this, stickers are a way to boost the realism and incorporate many key details from the movie, so it’s unsurprising that there are a large number of stickers, most of which are relatively easy to apply.
This is a nice nod to the pink smoke in the movie. We also add a few more details to the upstairs like a candelabra, the bedframe and a bat. The instruction book comes in a nice, protected envelope, which also contains the stickers used in the set. There are a few pages of introduction which introduce the designer and the motivation behind the set, and some of the goodies and Easter eggs included.
